IDAHO FRONT AND CENTER IN “DON’T ASK, DON’T TELL” DEBATE

The U.S. military exists for one purpose: to protect the security of the American people from foreign threats. It is trained for the singular purpose of killing people and breaking things to ensure the “domestic tranquility” of American families.

It should not be used for giant social-engineering experiments, whether those experiments involve putting women in combat positions where they do not belong or admitting open homosexuals into military service.

The prohibition against homosexuals serving in the military is right and proper for one simple reason: the presence of openly gay soldiers affects unit cohesion and morale and thus interferes with mission capability.

No soldier wants to bunk with someone who may have a sexual interest in him or who will ogle him in the shower. Anyone who thinks this is not an issue should ask a simple question: why don’t we allow male and female soldiers to bunk and shower together?

Military barracks are not intended to be anything-goes co-ed dorms. They exist to house soldiers who must be prepared to put their own lives at risk to protect ours, and it’s just common sense for the military to prevent anything that would threaten their ability to carry out their missions with singular purpose and focus.

There is a further issue here. If the military admits open homosexuals into the military, it will put the full endorsement of the U.S. government behind the effort to legitimize aberrant sexual behavior.

An 18-year veteran from Mountain Home Air Force Base, Lt. Col. Victor Fehrenbach, is now the poster child for the repeal of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy (DADT) after going on national TV Tuesday to complain about the plans of the Air Force to discharge him.

Fortunately, he appeared on the Rachel Maddow show on MSNBC so virtually no one was watching.

Homosexual activists are growing increasingly restive as Pres. Obama, who could issue an executive order today that would stop investigations into abnormal sexual behavior in military ranks, appears disinclined to do so, and seems unwilling even to address DADT at the present time.

Fehrenbach decided to fight his discharge back in September, because of his “tremendous hope” that Obama would endorse his sexual proclivities and let him continue to endanger military morale.

I believe President Obama is beginning to worry that the wheels are starting to come off his presidency – I predict he will be in deep guacamole by the end of the summer – and is intelligent enough to recognize that endangering national security by normalizing homosexual behavior in the military is probably a political non-starter.

For Idaho’s sake and for the sake of national security let’s hope things stay that way.

  • A prominent molecular biologist at Cal-Berkeley has argued for years, persuasively in my mind, that the HIV virus is not in fact the cause of AIDS. It is his theory that AIDS is a result of a combination of sexually transmitted infections and intense drug use among homosexuals which work together to gradually weaken a homosexual’s immune system. (Homosexuals frequently use drugs to heighten and prolong their sexual experiences, particularly relying on “poppers,” consisting of amyl nitrates.) In his view, HIV is a “harmless passenger virus,” meaning that even if a cure for it were found, it would not reduce the incidence of AIDS. Magic Johnson may illustrate this. He was famously diagnosed with the HIV virus 18 years ago, but is in the pink of health today. The federal government is spending twice as much fighting the HIV virus as it spends to fight influenza, even though the flu kills five times as many people as AIDS. • The fundamental problem with the left when it comes to terrorism is that it treats terrorism as a crime problem rather than a war problem. The international rules of war allow us to detain enemy combatants until hostilities are over, meaning we can keep them holed up at Gitmo until the last jihadist surrenders. For instance, we kept German POWS in the South until the very end of WWII. But criminals, on the other hand, have a right to a speedy trial and can’t be held indefinitely. Obama, by treating Gitmo terrorists as criminals rather than enemy combatants, is now bringing a terrorist to the U.S. for trial. But this is a man who has no claims whatsoever on the rights guaranteed under our Constitution because he is not a U.S. citizen and has never even lived here. This is both absurd and dangerous, since the role of soldiers in battle is to kill or capture, not to gather evidence. Criminal trials are going to allow men with hostile intent against the U.S. to be released into our population after juries find them not guilty due to a lack of the kind of evidence that’s necessary for a criminal conviction but is irrelevant when dealing with someone captured on the field of battle. (My Way News - Official: Gitmo suspect to be sent to NY for trial)
  • It’s time to crack down on Muslim chaplains in our prison system and say “No more.” Congress can do that, based on the original intent of the First Amendment, which only prevents Congress from picking one Christian denomination and making it the official church of the U.S. People in prison have no claim to many constitutional rights, having forfeited them through criminal convictions as a result of due process. You want to keep the full range of your constitutional rights, it might be smart not to kill anybody. Three of the four al-Qaida sympathizers who tried to blow up a Jewish synagogue and shoot a passenger plane out of the sky are U.S.-born terrorists who converted to radical Islam while in prison, most likely due to the influence of radical Islamic chaplains. Most Islamic chaplains in U.S. prisons are trained and funded by Saudi Arabia, the home of the most virulent form of Islam in the world, and find prison populations fertile ground for proselytizing. So we are destroying Bibles in Afghanistan while at the same time willy-nilly letting Korans into an already disaffected prison population. Stupid at best, insanely dangerous at worst. (FBI arrest four in alleged plot to bomb Bronx synagogues, shoot down plane)
  • Further problems on the terrorist front. Obama apparently intends to consider releasing as many as 100 Gitmo terrorists back to their home country of Yemen, which not coincidentally happens to be Osama bin Laden’s ancestral homeland. Bad idea. Yemen has become a haven for al Qaida, what the Wall Street Journal calls “a terrorist Shangri-La,” and we can be virtually assured that anyone sent back to Yemen will soon be back at work figuring out ways to kill as many Americans as possible. Gitmo terrorists sent to Yemeni prisons have a penchant for “escaping” from detention, and, mysteriously, can’t be found by Yemeni authorities. A released Gitmo terrorist, for example, is back in action as al Qaeda’s number two man on the Arabian peninsula. Federal judge Gladys Kessler – who, perhaps as a woman, has the requisite “empathy” Obama is looking for in judges – ordered a Gitmo terrorist to be released and sent back to Yemen due to a “lack of evidence.” See above story about what happens when we treat terrorists as criminals instead of sworn enemies of the United States. • We should not be blind to the development of what environmental expert Bjorn Lomborg calls “the climate-industrial complex,” the modern successor to the “military-industrial complex” of Eisenhower fame. This is because there are big bucks to be made by fleecing taxpayers for so-called green energy projects. Last year alone, U.S. companies involved with “climate change” hired 2,430 lobbyists, up 300% from five years ago. Fifty of the biggest U.S. electric utilities spend a staggering $51 million on lobbyists in just six months. But remember that Spain’s effort to create “green jobs” cost them nearly 11,000 jobs elsewhere, an average of 2.2 jobs lost for every one created. Global warming hysteria is based on bad science, is bad for the economy, and is beginning to reek of corruption. Meanwhile, completely without the help of Obama’s onerous cap-and-tax plan, CO2 emissions dropped last year by the greatest amount in 19 years. What crisis? (The Climate-Industrial Complex - WSJ.com; Greenhouse gases drop, lowest in 19 years - Washington Times)
