Books burned in AfghanistanThe Idaho Affiliate of the American Family Association

Bryan Fischer, Executive Director CNN CONFIRMS BOOK BURNING – WHERE’S THE OUTRAGE? Please take three minutes and watch the CNN clip you can access at the link below. It is from Wolf Blitzer of CNN, who is hardly a part of the vast, right-wing conspiracy. He confirms in his report that the U.S. military did indeed confiscate books in Afghanistan, gather them in a big pile, and burn them as trash. The books in question? Bibles translated into native Afghani tongues, and shipped to our soldiers to be given as gifts. The Bibles were confiscated by our own military, technically classified as “trash,” and bur ned to ashes. Our friends at the ACLU, who manufacture such pious outrage when a school book is challenged by a parent, let alone taken outside and burned, have been noticeably silent, once again revealing their true colors. They are for their version of civil liberties for everybody but Christians. What other nation in the world is so embarrassed by its own religious heritage? Is there any possible world in which you can picture a Muslim nation collecting and destroying copies of the Koran so they cannot be made available to native populations? Somebody tried that, we’d have World War III. It was not that long ago that a major media outlet released an utterly false story that a Guantanamo Bay guard had flushed a Koran down the commode. Worldwide outrage among Muslim peoples was instantaneous and incendiary. Not only do we provide Korans to Gitmo terrorists at taxpayer expense, we force our guards to wear white gloves to protect the delicate sensibilities of hate-filled men who would incinerate those guards without a second thought if they had the chance. It’s time to get over this historically revisionist nonsense that we are anything other than a Christian nation by heritage and tradition, and begin standing unapologetically by that simple and plain historical fact. Only then will we be able to resume our rightful place as a light to the world, a light of truth and liberty. YouTube - U.S. Military Burns Bibles In Afghanistan (Hat tip: Bruce Hansen) CAP AND TAX: HUGE COSTS, MINIMAL BENEFITS The Heritage Foundation has studied the climate change bill being rammed through Congress by Democrats, and discovered something that will be of no surprise to regular readers of the IVA Daily Update. ![]() The cost of the cap-and-tax plan will be huge, driving up the average family’s annual energy bill by $1,500 (take a moment to ponder what it will do to your family budget to see a sudden spike of $125 a month in your electricity rates), will cause gas prices to rise by 74%, natural gas prices to jump by 55%, reduce the gross domestic produce of the U.S. by a crippling $380 billion a year, and throw another 1.1 million people out of work every year. And the benefit? A miniscule drop in global temperatures of 0.09 degrees Fahrenheit by 2050. Yep, that’s less than 1/10 of one degree. And that’s assuming that global warming is caused primarily by manmade increases in CO2, which is almost certainly not true. If we reduce human contribution to global warming to about 10% of environmentalists’ unfounded assumption, the temperature reduction would be just 0.009 degree F, at a cost of $1.1 billion for every 1,1000th of a degree reduction. There is a blind and mindless anti-man, anti-progress, anti-civilization energy behind the environmental movement which will leave our economy in tatters unless the voices of reason and sanity rise up and make themselves heard. Son of Waxman-Markey: More Politics Makes for a More Costly Bill MINNESOTA GOVERNOR SHOWS HOW IT’S DONE The Wall Street Journal has done a “Minnesota nice” profile on the Gopher State’s governor, Tim Pawlenty, and how he stared down a Democrat state legislature to control the budget. Pawlenty vetoed one tax increase bill after another, daring the Democrats to override them. They couldn’t pull if off. ![]() As a consequence, the governor is now in a position to trim $2.7 billion from the state budget, one of the rare times in state history in which the size of Minnesota government will actually shrink even the tiniest little bit. Pawlenty was guided by three simple principles, which we can only hope will be adopted by Republicans and Blue Dog Democrats everywhere: “Number one, we must have and should have a balanced budget. Number two, the state government needs to live within its means, just like everybody else. Number three, we shouldn’t raise taxes in the worst recession in 60 years.” While drawing the predictably shrill whining from the nattering nabobs of negativism, Pawlenty is drawing raves from the state’s job creators, particularly small business, and from cash-strapped voters. May his tribe increase. Pawlenty for President anyone? A Governor and His Veto Pen - WSJ.com If you value the work of the IVA, please consider a donation today.
